The "Seven Sisters" mountain range, where the seven mountain peaks are like pearls on a string, is the most famous. From the highest peak at over a thousand metres, you can see out over the archipelago beyond Sandnessjøen and Svartisen Glacier, and on a clear day all the way to the Lofoten Wall.
Legend has it that the sisters escaped from a savage brute and turned to stone when the sun came up. It's a good story, but it was the Ice Age and large glaciers that crept over the landscape that created this landmark.
The Seven Sisters are clearly visible from the deck of the Kystruten ship, but you may want to take a closer look at these seven beauties. Some of the sisters are an easy hike, others are more demanding, but the toughest mountain hikers will manage all seven in one day. It usually takes between fifteen to twenty hours, but the record is less than four hours.
